Christmas Tree of Hope

For Sticks of Hope we donate baby items to be given in bags with other baby stuff to needy new moms in Espanola. The Church has erected a tree to be decorated with the items donated by the church. If you look you will see many knitted hats that Doris and Heather made plus some sweaters and socks that we all made.

Narra made this wonderful pincushion - sorry it seems to be a bit blurry. I think they would make great stocking stuffers this Christmas.

Valentina has created this lovely shawl from some of her own hand dyed yarn (she sells it and you can get some too - just look on the sidebar for her contact info).

This is a gorgeous Silk scarf is another original from Valintina's hand dyed yarn.

All of Valentina's items were crocheted and this was no exception. A fun scarf and a beautiful model.

I did this washcloth from A Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns by Barbara G. Walker. This is actually the back side of the Dimple Stitch but I like it better than the front.

This is the very cleaver Pretty Baby Sweater. I knit this up very quickly and it was also a load of fun to knit.

There was also a lot of items being knit that we can look forward to in the future.

Exciting Letter from Rüdiger Schlömer

Valentina recived this letter from Rüdiger Schlömer and parts of it were for our group...

A lot of news...first, the Book:

just received a copy of the book "Formulierte Fiktionen" (formulated fictions) by Michael Kröger, and art critic from Herford, Germany. We had been in contact about my scarf project for a while before, and when I told him there would be a READYMADE-fanscarf pattern (and scarfs eventually), he wanted to use it in his book, because of the interesting connection to Marcel Duchamp, the artist who invented this term.

After seeing pictures or your beautiful scarf, he even decided to use it for his cover. I esspecially like the fact that your group started in a library, and now a piece of your work will become part of many other libraries... Attached in this mail I send you a picture of the book, and I will send you a copy soon.

The Exhibition:

The exhibition "CRAFTWERK 2.0" has finally opened in the swedish town on Jönköping, not far from Göteborg. There are also a lot of American Craft artists in the exhibition. Unfortunately, the curators did not use all of the scarfs I sent them, but your collective "Readymade"-Scarf and Jane's "FANSCARF" were included. I will go to Sweden in two weeks, to have a small lecture on the project and a knitting workshop, both in the design museum Göteborg and the museum in Jönköping. The Jönköping Letter Archive:

For the exhibition, I also developed a new part of the scarf project, which is an archive of single letter knitting patterns, called THE JÖNKÖPING LETTER ARCHIVE. (Actually Jane's remark that I should distribute the knitting patterns that I sent you contributed to this idea!) The Archive comes in both printed version - for the museum and workshops- and as an internet version. You can find it here: http://www.schalalala.de/the-jonkoping-letter-archive/(When you click on the miniature letters, the pattern will open, and you can print them out directly. This is done with the online-service "Issuu", which might take a little while to get used to, but then it works fine.)

For the duration of the exhibition, I am inviting the people in Jönköping and knitters worldwide to each knit one letter, and to send it to the museum. It's an experiment to see if, and how, people participate, and what letters will be knitted. I think it will be great to have letter from all over the (knitting) world all connected in one great piece of art! I am looking forward to doing some knitting myself with my knitting circle. Of course you are invited to, if you still feel like doing some more of the intarsia knitting. And you are welcome to pass the information on to other knitters / knitting groups you know.

So that's all the news from me for now. Here in Berlin, it is slightly getting colder and rainy, fall is definitely on it's way... Although I would have like some more warm days, I'll now get my yarn out and start the knitting season!

Jo brought her shawl that she knitted while her mother was in the hospital. Both have come out great.

Those of you who have taken Valentina's Mitered Corner Workshop will recognize this as one of hers.

Shangyi made this great hat for her mom - lucky woman.

I finally finished the scarf that goes with my hat and mitten set.

So many pretty things.

This is Linda's first project and it is amazing. She even lined it. With a start like this I am sure we will be seeing great things from her.

Diana only got home with this sweater because it did not fit me. It is fabulous.

Renita is too nice, knitting these socks for her husband. What a lucky man.

Here is a unique Valentina Original. (By the way, she sells this yarn).

Doris created a wonder in the new Noro cotton (Valentina has this yarn too). It really is a very flattering sweater with just enough color for Doris.

I found this dishcloth pattern on line. It was very fun to knit.

Another on line pattern I had a great time with it.

There were also some great works in progress that I will be looking forward to seeing the finished projects.

We had a small group on Tuesday. Renita I just heard about your accident and we are all thinking about you and missed you - glad you are OK - and hope you can still knit, LOL.

Valentina made this gorgeous cardigan following her Free Form knitting technique that she gladly gives workshops on whenever there is an interest, just let her know and she will schedule a class.

This is my Flair Annette project. I am very happy with how it came out. It knits of fast and the pattern is easy enough for me to remember. You can get the details here.

So many long term items finished.

Eileen finished the kilt hose she made for her son - it was a labor of love and they are so beautiful.

Kathy was very clever in the design of this scarf and if you are familiar with chemistry you will see the cleverness right away!

The Ready Made scarf will be representing the USA for the Jonkoping County Museum exhibit of "Craftwerk 2.0", curated by Otto von Busch, Jönköping County Museum, Sweden (Sept.09 - Jan 2010).

Ara made this hat that is so very soft and warm she will be anxiously awaiting winter just to wear it.

The colors of this yarn are well represented in another wonderful sweater by Valentina.

Renita is becoming our sock diva with her 7th pair in this beautiful lace pattern.

Another creation of Valentina for some Lana Wool yarn that you can get from Valentina. It is a very soft thick and thin that also comes in some other lovely colors. This pattern works up quickly.

We have another work of love that Eva created for her grandson. It is a chain male jacket.

He loves it and is delighted to show it to us (he is working on his own nice scarf too).

This week was full of finished items and I look forward to seeing what you all bring next week!

We had some very cute baby items to show off before the go to Espanola.

Heather completed this lovely sweater and the booties.

Doris and I finally finished this joint layette project.

Sticks of Hope will be starting a new weight loss devotional on July 8th. We will be meeting every Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the meeting room of the White Rock Methodist Church to discuss while we knit items for charity. Right now we are working on baby things for the Espanola Hospital Bags but feel free to bring your own charity knitting project. I Must Decrease by Janice Thompson and you will need to purchase a copy of the book.

This is the Jane collection and includes some custom made neck warmers and her own dyeing and designs.

This is Doris' favorite baby dress to knit. This one is just lovely in bamboo.

Sam is making several of these adorable bunnies - you really need to see one to get the full effect.

I knit this baby dress out of cotton. I love feather and fan pattern.

This is the "I spilled dinner on my sweater just so I can turn it around" sweater by Valentina. It is not only an interesting modular look but the fabric has great texture.

Because of its great design and texture it was just screaming for me to play around with my photo shop - hope you don't mind Valentina or Jane.

Mermaid Socks

These are Jane's lovely mermaid socks - they are the same length she is lifting her heal on on side to give you a better view of the sock.

One of the really neat things she did was design a matching toe and heal.

There were several great WIP going on. Be sure to look for a couple of letter scarves, a Valentina designed mitered cornered sweater with a twist, a Jane original to be finished soon.

The scarf party was a huge success. It was unusually quiet for our group due to the level of concentration that is required for this technique. I know there were a couple of things I never fully mastered.

It was not all work there was some wonderful food and drink - Valentina bakes the best cakes.

And there was a trip to The Studio - one of my favorite places - here we are.

Tuesday night we discussed the scarf some more. If you would like to bring some letters or ideas to knitting on Tuesday we will be looking at ideas. Each letter needs to be 40 stitches high and the width is not important. It would look best if each letter is a different font. Sort of like it was cut out of a newspaper or something. Lots of finished items and a party announcement

Valentina is going to host a scarf party for her friend, Rüdiger Schlömer. We will be making a scarf to send to his exhibit. Valentina will supply the yarn you bring your worsted weight needles. Cathy is really loving her sweater and showing off Jane's latest dishcloths.

Top is Diane's wonderful vest - the buttons are great. Bottom Doris knitted a soft summer sweater.

Another Doris sweater is upside down with another shot of Jane's dishcloths and a mermaid sock with a special heal Jane developed - ask her about it.

Yvonne made this colorfully beauty and Valentina brought some nice cotton yarn.

Small and Quiet last night

We had a small group and we were unsually quiet last night. We missed those who could not make it - you know who you are.

Gina finished this really long throw for her husband. He is really tall. The details are excusitite with cables and a scalloped edge. What a lucky man.

You know how metalic yarn can be scratchy - not so with this yarn. So soft and wouldn't you know I forgot what it was. You will have to ask Doris. The sweater is great so look for her in it this spring.

We will be meeting again March 26th. The week before spring break.

We had fun last night visiting and knitting.

This is my latest acquisition in yarn - some of Valentina's hand dyed yarn that has to be seen to be believed. While she does not have anymore of this colorway there are others that are equally beautiful. I got the shawl pin at Miriam's well.

In anticipation of Valentina's Mitered Corner Class people brought in sample mitered corner projects they have made. What a wonderful and varied collection. I hope you can see from the examples how versatile mitered corners can be.

These two items, a wonderful scarf from Grace's collection and a wrap, both made by Jo are not mitered as well as the sippers in the above picture.

Tomoko finished her 1st pair of socks and did a fabulous job on them.

A wonderful scarf

I just love the White Rock group. We have so much fun and the drive is not bad at all. If it snows I can always walk.

Gina made this beautiful scarf out of scraps using a unique technique. You should ask her about it.

Jackie brought the husband sweater and if you want to see a pic of it look at the Outrageous post.

I would have brought the gauntlets finished but Kat has already misplaced them.

We missed those of you who were unable to attend last night but hope to see you at the next meeting on the 26th.

We had a fun time with a smaller group last night.

Doris finished this sweater and it is a great pattern. Very flattering and the yarn is great too.

Jackie finished her labor of love for her husband. He loves it and it came out as one of those sweaters that you will wear until it falls apart and still be sad to give it up. Good job Jackie.

The Wild Bunch

We were a wild bunch last night. Valentina has a new yarn as her namesake! Very cool and if you like it she can get you some - she has new samples of new yarn - her contact info is on the right.

Sonya (I am sorry I think I misspelled your name but I forgot to get it last night) our newest member, made this absolutely adorable bear. It is so soft too.

Jane made this cowl and I think Eleen got the buttons for her but I might be confused. Anyway, it is really nice.

This is Doris' newest sweater, she made it to go with the necklace her daughter made for her. Ask her and she will gladly show off both of them. There were many wonderful works in progress. Jacky is making a lovely cross stitch baby blanket while Doris is earning her name - ripper - while helping Tammy.

MAN finally got his gauntlets that I finished last night at knitting. He is delighted.

Story Night

Last night at Knit at Knite it seemed like we all had stories to tell. Lots of laughs and fun.

Valentina (contact info on the right side menu) made this cardigan out of Noro sock yarn. It is the perfect weight for spring or summer.

She also brought one of her gorgeous Granny Square Cardigans. What a fun mix of crochet and knit.

As promised, she brought the Swatch Party Scarf and here she is modeling for us!

Doris brought her swift and ball winder to wind up some yarn for Ellen. She made the sweater too out of a wool she can actually wear - Kathmandu.

There seemed to be some silliness going on.

Stash Busting at Chix with Stix

We had nice evening last night. Gina noticed a Doris sweater on display at Looking Glass Yarns so if you go by be sure to look for it.

Seems like there were several people looking as knitting up their stash and getting rid of the odds and ends. Both were making blankets and I look forward to seeing the finished product.

Gina made this wonderful baby sweater and added lovely buttons. It is so soft and elegant looking.

She also finished this wonderful vest. I just love the colors and it fits her just right.

She found these really fun buttons that match the yarn perfectly.

Winter Break is Over

The Christmas Break is over and everyone must have missed knitting group as we had a roomful. Even some new people, which is also fun.

Lynn has not been able to make it to knitting but she wanted to share her son's sweater with us.

Pat has been working hard on these patterns for her granddaughters. The shirts are reversible and there is a matching one for an 18" doll. Jane wrote the pattern so contact her if you are interested.

Narra finished this wonderful mitered square sweater. I did not get a very good angle on it. I think this might be some of her very own yarn.

The highlight was the finishing of the green sweater that my picture just does not do justice to and you can't see the cable patterns that are so beautiful in this absolutely wonderful sweater.

Grace, who has started her own business (see the right hand menu) knitted these mittens. (they are not hers but Lucy Neatby's pattern)

Two Tables and lots of finished Items.

We had fun last night and there were so many great works in progress as well as quite a few finished items.

Some of us were feeling very silly!

Valentina has created another one of her wonderful sweaters.

Jane has been very busy: starting with these Swiffer covers and a dishcloth.

A neck warmer to go with her modular jacket.

A dog sweater she finished at our meeting.

These dishcloths are truly beautiful. The Christmas tree clothes are reversible and they are the flip sides of each other.

Yvonne has been busy and made a headband in colors I just love. Really you need to check this one out as the picture did not do it justice.

The neck warmer has a place to put one end through the other and is just wonderful.

She brought her dog sweaters - he is a lucky little guy!

One big table

I like it when we have the room arranged as one big table. It just seems more friendly to have everyone together instead of some with their backs to each other.

Pat is making some beautiful neck warmers. The colors are great as is the knitting.

I made another Jane dishcloth. She is so good at writing patterns that even the most complicated is easy.

Party Fun and Knitting

What fun we had last night at the knitting costume party. The food was fantastic and the costumes wonderful.

There were many finished objects.

Cathy made the fun scarves in the back. She has just been cruising with them. I made the sweater. Valentina brought some new books and yarn for us all to look at.

Renita finished her 1st socks. Valentina made the sweater and again Cathy's great scarves, and apparently she made more and this is just a sampling.

As sweaters always look better on - here is mine. You have to excuse the angle, my 8-year-old took this.

A big crowd and an Announcement

Next week Knit at Knite will be having a costume party. Wear something fun and bring a snack (optional of course). No red drinks please!

We had fun last night and were rather loud I fear. There were several finished objects.

Diana made this wonderful sweater - with a funny story to go along with it so ask her next time you see her.

Cathy made this scarf.

Heidi made another Jane pattern for her mother's Christmas present.

Norra made some fun pictures.

We started out quiet last night.

Maybe it was the weather but the small group that gathered came in slowly bit by bit so we were very quiet until Valentina and I started telling stories and that got quite lively. We missed those of you who did not brave the bad weather last night but we certianly understand.

I brought my IPod Neclace that I made to hold my IPod around my neck. It works well.

I also brought my most recent project from Jane's Book.

There were many fine UFOs being worked on. A few looked like they might be done by next week.

Last night we pulled together all the Sticks of Hope items and we really had a lot of it. We put labels on it and sorted it for different charities. There have been many people working on all of it and I thank you all!

because the group has been larger. It was lots of fun last night.

Some lucky little girl is going to get a lovely purple cabled sweater for herself and one for her doll from Pat.

We have seen this piece of fiber art before. Narra has really done it up.

Doris has another bamboo sweater done! I wish the lace had come out better.

While not strictly fiber art these pieces are too good not to include, by Narra.

Knitting in WR

We seem to consistently have 4 or 5 people at Chix with Stix. Not always the same people even. I brought the camera but only Doris brought a finished item. Well I brought the mermaid gauntlets but you saw them on the Knit at Knite post.

Doris made this bamboo sweater on the machine and by hand. It is absolutely lovely.

Look for us knitting at the Homecoming Game tonight!

WE had a plethora of UFOs.

Knit at Knite is starting to fill up again. With the chill in the air it has people thinking about knitting again. There were many beautiful works in progress but only 2 finished items.

Renita has finished her first sock. It is great! She is also has a good start on the 2nd so maybe she will escape 2nd sock syndrome.

I brought the Mermaid Gauntlets. Actually Kat brought them and she likes them so much she did not want to give them up during knitting. You can see the pattern on the link!

Knit At Knite 9 Sept. 08

We started out with a very small group last night but slowly gathered strength.

Eva made this beautiful baby blanket. I can just see a toddler snuggling up with this after it becoming a favorite.

Marissa made this scarf and got the neat striping effect by knitting it side to side.

Jane finished her Kilt Hose that she designed herself (if you want to make your own get in touch with her for instructions). Hopefully we will get a picture of them on. She created the decrease for the ankle in such a way that is is part of the pattern and really looks nice.

We were a bit loud but we were having fun.

Just a couple of finished items. Gina actually made this as her 1st sweater, obviously a while ago but as she had it on I thought we could share it. She did it in baby cotton and it is so soft and comfortable.

Doris made this partly on the machine from her own design. It is bamboo and came out just lovely. Look for it with a blue ribbon in the craft building at the State Fair.

Heather is almost done with her fish. I am continuing to work on the gauntlet. Our newest member Cathy (I am not sure if I am spelling that right) is working on a baby sweater.

BTW the blog I was talking about (and I think Gina was mentioning his book) is The Panopticon?

Many WIP

There were 2 FOs this week but I only got a picture of one. Jo made the cutest dress ever and you really should have her show it to you. It had ribbon at the bottom.

We will be saying goodbye to Amy and really miss her. Doris made another dress for the baby and here she is modeling it, LOL.

Eva was finishing up a great baby blanket. Ellen was making some flowers. Grace is making a shawl out of some great colors. Doris is finishing up another bamboo sweater - actually this one is great and I love the design. She did part of it on the machine. Renita getting the hang of her sock...There were more but I don't remember them all. Hopefully you will be able to stop by next week and see for yourself.

Jane's Dishcloths

The dishcloths you photographed are not from my book. They are probably easier than any of the cloths in the book. I did make both of them up. You can post the instructions if you like:

Both cloths: Worsted weight cotton. Size 7 or Size 8 needles. You can use more or fewer stitches than specified depending on the desired size of cloth. On either cloth you can slip the edges to make the edges smooth, but you don’t have to. (I usually do this.)

First cloth (the one with the weird pooling):

Cast on 36 sts
Row 1: K1, P1 across
Row 2: P across
Row 3: K1, P1 across
Row 4: K across

Repeat these 4 rows until cloth is desired size. (I usually do 56 rows, or other multiple of 4.)

Second cloth:
Cast on 37 sts (or other odd number of stitches)
K2, P2, end K1, for 6 rows
P2, K2 , end P1, for 6 rows

Repeat these 12 rows until cloth is desired size. (I usually do 54 rows, or other multiple of 6)

My other comment was on “Small, but Jane has been busy!” -- Yes, even us small people can be busy.

Now with school starting everyone needs to get into a new schedule so there were not a lot of people there last night. We had lots of room to show off what we were doing and look at books.

Jane made these great scarves. I think our model is a natural.

I made another hat and you can get the pattern.

Doris put this in the fair and got 1st place! The only comment was "adorable."

This cloth is really neat and I believe you can get the patterns from Jane's Book. This one is special because it looks like there may have been a mistake in the dyeing process that caused it to pool in this manner.

Lots of finished items.

We started out slowly last night with just a few of us and I was thinking that it must be one of those weeks when everyone is out of town but I was wrong slowly they drifted in for a good size group.

Valentina was back from another workshop and it has been a big week for her. She has patterns in the books Great Garter Stitch and Shawls Two. She also got Spectacular Wrap and Oversized Fisherman's Rib Jacket in Cast On and an interview in Crochet July 2008. She will have a both at the Rag Rug Festival (previous post) too. Keep an eye out for her everywhere!

Dorris knit this Touch Me sweater and is working on another one. She has some great tips for working with this yarn.

Ciara knitted this very cute purse - I want one.

Jo made this vest that just hangs so right. The yarn striped/pooled wonderfully under her skilled hand.

Valentina brought these wonderful cardigan sweaters - I forgot to get the names from her. They are her own designs and she dyed the yarn and crocheted them while Narra spun it.

She crocheted this hat while we watched - it has a flower that she added after I took the picture.

Here is the 1st set from Jane's Book - towel, dishcloth and potholder - I finished the set yesterday.

I can never turn down a chance to show off the hat!

Adults and FO at Stitching Club

Some of the kids deserted us yesterday and it was a mostly adult meeting and a good turn out.

Melissa made this beautiful sweater from some of Valentina's silk and some nice wool. She can hardly wait for cooler weather to wear it.

You simply must look for Doris in this so you can touch it. The yarn is Touch Me and you must.

I finished another of Jane's patterns. This time a dishcloth to go along with the Towel.

I also got to show off the latest Hat.

We had quite a large crowd last night at stitching club. We had to borrow chairs from the other room.

Heidi had to leave early to pick up Kat from her driving lessons but brought her Tiled Dishcloth from Jane's book Color Splash.

Ciara also made a dishcloth from Jane's book.

We had quite a crowd yesterday at stitching club. I think I might have missed some of the finished objects. Ashley had made some hats and I did not get a picture of them. I forgot with everything that was going on - bring them to the next knitting event you go to, please.

Melisa made this beautiful tank using blocks of different stitches and pulled it all together with a crocheted edge. It is wonderful.

Dana made this really cute doll. It is taking a trip in the mail but if you get a chance see it in person. My favorite is the hair but the vest with those buttons is really cute too.

Joy made a dust bunny, LOL. I would have given her some of mine but they are not near as cute as this one!

I finished the Tiled Dishcloth from Jane's book Color Splash. She had a different top but I don't have anyplace to hang it like that so I extended it and made it straight.

Many People and Projects

OK, well I forgot the camera last night. My only defense is that Kat is starting driving lessons and I have been a bit distracted. I did remember to give Doris her onions but not the camera. Of course it turned out to be a very well attended night with lots of finished projects.

It is character that counts.

Sticks of Hope was fun last night. We read about the woman of Psalm 31 and discussed how it is her character that is important. We reflected on how we could be women of character. We also knitted and visited. It was nice to have Doris back and we heard some more of her trip.

This blanket was made in strips on the knitting machine by Doris and sewn up by Danielle and Kat.

Next week we are learning about the Shulammite Woman.

We did have lots of fun with getting a rare visit from Margaret & Cici. Kathy brought pictures of Porsche’s wedding and we got to finally hear the details of it. Of course we all talked knitting. Renita had her first practice sock done and it looked great. There were many wonderful projects going on. I always get such inspiration when I am there.

Next week we can hit Doris up about her trip now that she is home. I have a correction it was not the largest ball of yarn they saw but a tiger refuge.

Sunday night Michael came up to me and asked to start working on his knitting project. That led up to us skipping Math, Grammar and Writing to go. After having lunch with Doris we popped over to stitching club. While Michael did not do any knitting there was a lot of knitting and crocheting going on and even a little rug braiding.

Lisa had finished this poncho that I think Ema started.

Rachelle made these lovely dishcloths.

This group is really fun and it is for any needle craft and any age. Stop by the WR Library on Mondays this summer to join the fun.

It's hot but the library is cool!

We had a larger group last night and we were back to several conversations at once so I know I missed something good. There were lots of very neat projects going on, except for Narra who forgot her knitting, LOL. Although I bet there were lots of good projects going on in her mind.

Jane made this very nice neck warmer for a young friend out of Caron Simply Soft. She finished it right before our eyes last night.

Joy has been busy, as usual. She had to make another shrug for the other daughter because they both liked them so much. It is the Circular Shrug by Julia Allen and is made out of Patons Canadiana.

I did not get any info on this very cute baby hat, but it is so cute you just have to say ah when you see it.

She has been experimenting with dishcloths and the like lately and this one is
My Heart Dishcloth by Janelle Schlossman in Reynolds Saucy.

This one is one of my favorites Be My Dishcloth by Kristen Patay in Reynolds Saucy.

Remember that it might be hot outside but it is nice and cool in the library!

Summer is for small groups.

While there was not a large group it was a fun group. There were several more people than last week but I just think that is how the summer goes. It is great to get to refresh my batteries every week with you all.

Jane had some exciting news. Her book is now being offered in the Mary Maxim Catalog. If you were looking for your own copy you can get it there now as well. I have knit several of the patterns myself and they are not only beautiful and unique but also very well written.

Renita finished her vest but it is a bit large so she will be gifting it to someone. She made it out of Tatamy Tweed. It really came out very nice and someone will be very lucky to get it. I fear that it will not be me after all my noise about vests, but that is the way it goes.

I had to get a close up of the button as I really liked it and felt she did a good job of matching the yarn.

The most amazing Joy was able to get a whole sweater set out of one skein of yarn. It is just cute as can be too. She is knitting this for Sticks of Hope out of Red Heart Ltd. Soft Baby Multi. There is a very lucky baby out there someplace.

She was experimenting with Reynolds Saucy and rather than just make a swatch she crocheted a washcloth. What a great idea!

Here is another pair of socks that you should have been here to see the cables better. Joy made these for her father out of sidar mosaic. Joy's mom if you are reading this don't spoil the surprise!

Jessica, one of the youngest knitters, made this very cute wrist band. I forgot to find out if she knit it in the round or flat and sewn up later but I sure like to see the young ones knitting.

These wrists warmers are really a softer blue but you can see the lace pattern better in this. So if you have access to Joy's Ravelry page you can see the real color. She made them out of Patons Lacette.

We sure hope you all are having a nice summer and when Tuesday night rolls around remember that you can get out of the heat and soak up the library's air conditioning while talking yarn and things at Knit at Knite.

Small but lots of FO.

Last night we had a very small group. Summer is like that. The nice thing about small groups is you really get to visit with each other and have more time for each person in the group. There was lots of work going on to finish projects and Joy has really been busy. All the items here except the quilt are hers. I think we may have someone to give Doris some competition, LOL. Doris sends her greetings to everyone and misses you all!

We really do enjoy other fiber arts and this is the just beautiful quilt that Kathy made for her daughter's wedding. She actually brought it last week but I had to wait to post it because it was a surprise - Congratulations Porsha.

Joy's Christmas socks are for an unknow recipiant but isn't she great, already doing her Christmas knitting - I must get busy myself. I wish you could see the cable on the top of these socks. They are the Boyfriend socks out of Knit Picks Tweed.

Joy has joined the charity knitting group and knitted these very cute baby socks.

Another monkey has joined her family. Joy says "I used pipe cleaners in her arms, legs and tail. She was very quick to knit up. It took almost as long to sew all the pices together."

At 1st I thought she had left out the hole for a head and then discovered it was a shrug. It is the Circular Shrug pattern out of Sirdar Mosaic. She has to make another for the other daughter, LOL.

She also spins and picked up this roving from EVFAC. The blue is for her daughter and she spun the pink for herself.

I had to include 2 pictures of the scarf to get the whole look in. It is so beautiful and the lace is wonderful. It is made out of Knit Picks lace.

Lots of Girls

I forgot the camera but there were not any finished items anyway. We did have a bunch of giggly girls who had fun planning and working on projects. I also forgot the book but we did a reading about wandering away from God and finding your way back because he is always waiting for us. It was very fun and a bit loud last night.

Doris made one of these sweaters from the Lion Brand Homespun for herself. I really wish you could see the lace at the bottom better.

Wow, what a night.

We were almost crowded last night with 3 new people joining us. We talked about the Shunammite woman and pondered how we felt about hospitality and how we should feel about it. How do you measure up? Do people feel welcome in your home? Do you make them comfortable?

There was a fair sized crowd last night. Doris and Heidi brought cookies. We told jokes and a good time was had by all.

Joy made these really pretty row counters. She is so smart as she explained them to me. The one with 2 beads at the end is the 10s place and the other the ones place.

We had a fair size crowd last night and some more new faces. Tammy brought a pear tart to treat everyone, so if you were not here you really missed out. We compared Mother's Day presents and Marissa got the best one so if you run into her ask about it.

Heidi knit another hat from bamboo.

Doris knit this sweater from Lion Brand Homespun. The lace edging is very nice.

Narra spun up some more hand dyed yarn. She has her Etsy store open and as soon as she sends me the link I will post it on the side. If you contact her I am sure she would be happy to work with you on making some really beautiful yarn for you.

Renita finished her crocheted Daisy Vest. It is so very pretty.

Jo made this very cool cotton short sleeved sweater. It does some really neat things with the V shaping.

It must be that time of year again where everyone's activities are conflicting with knitting. We really do understand that the kids get unhappy when you tell them you can't go to there concert, art show, play... because you need to got to your knitting group.

While the group was small you could not tell it by the noise level. We sure had fun.

We have a new member, Joy, who has just moved here and had these lovely finished socks made of mohair. I think she made up the pattern. Be sure to look for her next time and make her feel welcome. I think she may spin too!

Doris knit this for Sticks of Hope but brought it last night. It is machine knit except for the collar and hem. It is Red Heart Soft and will be machine washable and much easier for someone in need to deal with.

Doris has been busy knitting for her mom and made this wonderful sweater for her birthday. It is Lambs Pride Superwash Bulky. The cable and color are just gorgeous and did not come out as nicely as I had hoped. Happy Birthday, Doris' Mom, you sure are lucky.

For Mothers' Day she made her this really cute vest of super soft alpaca with a really cool bling zipper. Another lucky gift for mom!

Knitting Everywhere

Just a few pictures from last night. Due to my own life I was tired and did not get any works in progress pictures - I even forgot to get Doris' newest sweater so I will have to try to get a picture next time she wears it. It was a smallish group and I apologize for not making my rounds and seeing all the exciting stuff you all are knitting. I will catch up next week.

Marissa finished her scarf, almost. One of the wonderful things about knitting is that you can truly make each item your own. She want to add something to the ends to make it more finished looking. I can't wait to see it.

Jane finished 2 of her 4th of July washcloths and is almost done with the 3rd one.

Full Room

It was a large crowd at Knit at Knite last night. There was already a full table when I came in the room. There were other projects than those posted below but this is what I was able to capture.

Pat and Jane showed off their mitered jackets.

If you missed last night you missed Doris' spring cleaning. She was giving away sweaters - what fun.

Kathy finished her Ironstone afghan. It is so snuggly. She is going to have to fight the cats to use it.

Here is more proof that we enjoy crocheters. This is Just lovely. Renita is making a Crocheted Daisy Vest.

Valentina is back from 2 trips to California. She had a good time and is working on this original wave sweater in cotton.

Dorris is becoming the Bamboo Maven with an original design in bamboo. The lace did not come out in this picture very well but it is just gorgeous - I will try to snap a picture of just the lace next time she wears it. The lace is wonderful. There has been some discussion about how bamboo stretches. She measured it at the beginning of the day and then again last night and it had grown 2" in both width and length. She has some really good tips about working with the bamboo so if you are thinking about making something you may want to give her a call.

Jackie knit this wonderful blanket for her bed. It is still folded up - it will fit a queen size bed. It is supper soft and I love the colors.

Last night at Sticks of Hope we learned about Jezebel and pondered how we will be remembered when we are gone. How do others see us? What do they think about our character?
